learning languages

To learn languages, I like very old and very new websites… depends on the language.

Instagram language accounts
I love following instagram accounts dedicated to learning the language in bite chunks.

Chatterbug
www.chatterbug.com
This is the latest one i’m trying, so far I really enjoy the way it has been developed. Mixing standard online learning elements with live video lessons.

Babbel
www.babbel.com
Not free, but quite good, feels like a premium version of Duolingo.com.

Duolingo
www.duolingo.com
I’ve spent so much time on that app. I’ve been often frustrated by the gamification mechanics. I nevertheless how they commit to propose their service for free, although they push way too much the premium non-advertising version. I don’t have a premium feeling about what they propose, there is no added value. The only value is that they annoy you less if you pay them. Not great. I Also love the fact that they propose so many different languages, and their idea to kind of crowdsource new languages with a beta program, it’s very smart, very well done. Nevertheless there is also a bit of politics behind all that, balance of power between original and current contributors of a course. Doesn’t seem respectful for passionate language teachers who want to help the world discover their language and get kicked out after helping build a course. I’ve seen it happen, and that was not nice.

Lingozing

An idea that I really like, learn languages by reading multilingual versions of famous comic books.

Allemandfacile, Anglaisfacile
